C o m m o d o r e ’s Report to the 2005 AGM

Greyer hair, sleepless nights, increased stress levels and coping with unpopularity are all part of being Commodore but think of all the positives – making a difference, introducing changes, personal development, taking risks, having fun and believe me there’s lots more. Convinced?

On reflection, it has been quite an amazing experience and without wishing to sound too ‘heavy’ one of those periods in life that will always be remembered. Whilst we have had our difficult times, I think it is fair to say that it has been a very positive period. We have continued to maintain our facilities to a high standard, have been proactive in developing opportunities for junior members and have continued to hold successful social events.

For years Stour Sailing Club has held a reputation for being a thriving and popular club and is the envy of many. In my opinion the main reason for this success is the pride that members have in belonging to the club. Success breeds success. Both individually and collectively, the sense of stewardship is incredible.

Of course over the next three years there will be further changes, dramas, high and lows – what else would you expect? I am convinced there is an enough ‘material’ to make a good ‘soap opera’. New Committee members will want to make their mark whilst ensuring that it is business as usual in many areas.

So thanks to those who have supported the Committee, thanks to those who have presented us with challenges and thanks Stour Sailing Club for making life interesting.

And of course a big thankyou to all Committee Members who have supported me over the past three years, not forgetting Jenny, Mike and Dusty who are all retiring from Committee life this year.
