Coronavirus – May Update
You will be pleased to note, I am sure, that your Committee has been continuing to have their monthly meetings during the lockdown via ZOOM – a steep learning curve but it has worked well.
Although the clubhouse has been in lockdown we did make it available to one member who has been making attachments for masks as part of PPE – it is a superb initiative and we have been delighted to be of some assistance to him. He has now moved to his own premises but I can report that he made around 1,000 pieces during his time in the clubhouse.
Following the update issued by the Prime Minister last night:-
The RYA have issued a press release which can be accessed via this link https://www.rya.org.uk/newsevents/news/Pages/return-to-boating-update.aspx
However the advice in there to note for us is:
From Wednesday, 13 May unlimited outdoor activity will be permitted in England, and we understand that this will include all forms of boating. The Prime Minister also indicated that people would be permitted to travel to other destinations in order to exercise. Any activity will still need to be alone or with members of a single household, and social distancing must be followed at all times.
Until we have seen the Government guidelines in detail, we cannot speculate on when Clubs and Training Centres will be able to reopen their doors. We look forward to seeing the further guidance within the Government’s three step plan.
I have also spoken with HHA and can confirm that their stance at the moment is:
We really need more detail from the government before we can formally comment on returning to recreational actives afloat. I think we will know more by Wednesday.
- I can confirm that the clubhouse will remain in lockdown.
- The West compound has never strictly been in lockdown but during the stay at home period we would not have expected members to access it. Our feeling is that members with boats in there must observe social distancing and must be responsible should they want to work on their boats.
- I will come back to you all later this week with a further update.
- If you know of anyone who is not IT savvy could you please give them a ring to keep them in the loop. Please keep your membership and mooring applications coming in as this process has not changed.
If you have any concerns, questions, etc please let me know. Stay safe out there, look after yourselves.
