Corona Virus – Here we go again

Commodore’s Note

Coronavirus – here we go again!

 The lockdown announcements from the Government that came into force on 5th November have further implications for the Club and our members to ensure that each of us keep within the requirements (legally) and we stay safe whilst having consideration for others.

Please take time to note the following;

  • Stay at home, except for specific purposes.
  • Avoid meeting people you do not live with, except for specific purposes.
  • Stay local – you should not travel to carry out your exercise.

However, you can exercise or meet in a public outdoors space with people you live with, anyone in your ‘bubble’, or with one other person.

Social distancing remains strictly in place.

RYA guidance states;

 No overnight stays are allowed on boats.

 Members may be able to access boats for essential checks and maintenance such as moorings for example (this is vital as the winter months approach – we have had one boat recently break from its mooring due to a chain in a poor state).

Outdoor sports centres and amenities (which includes sailing clubs and watersports centres) will have to close – I am afraid this means that the clubhouse will be closed.

 Sport England FAQs state;

 Can I exercise on the waterways? For example, canoeing, paddle boarding, sailing on my own, or with my household/support bubble.  Can I go fishing?

Yes, so long as you’re doing so:

  • on your own
  • with the people you live with (your household)
  • your support bubble
  • on your own and with one person from another household

During this lockdown period you must be responsible for your actions and keep safe – any concerns about the above or just being on your own please do get in touch with me.
