The lockdown announcements from the Government that came into force on 5th November have further implications for the Club and our members to ensure that each of us keep within the requirements (legally) and we stay safe whilst having consideration for others.
Please take time to note the following;
However, you can exercise or meet in a public outdoors space with people you live with, anyone in your ‘bubble’, or with one other person.
Social distancing remains strictly in place.
RYA guidance states;
No overnight stays are allowed on boats.
Members may be able to access boats for essential checks and maintenance such as moorings for example (this is vital as the winter months approach – we have had one boat recently break from its mooring due to a chain in a poor state).
Outdoor sports centres and amenities (which includes sailing clubs and watersports centres) will have to close – I am afraid this means that the clubhouse will be closed.
Sport England FAQs state;
Can I exercise on the waterways? For example, canoeing, paddle boarding, sailing on my own, or with my household/support bubble. Can I go fishing?
Yes, so long as you’re doing so:
During this lockdown period you must be responsible for your actions and keep safe – any concerns about the above or just being on your own please do get in touch with me.
5th November 2020
It has not been an easy decision but now that Essex has a local Covid alert level set at Tier 2 we have to close the bar and the parlour. The restrictions state;
You must not meet socially with friends and family indoors in any setting unless you live with them or have formed a support bubble with them. This includes private homes, and any other indoor venues such as pubs and restaurants.
The group which has carried out the risk assessments for the bar and the clubhouse during Covid discussed again this evening the impact the new restrictions have for our members.
The outcome of the discussions was that regrettably we cannot viably and fairly to members, both behind and in front of the bar, accommodate sufficient numbers safely and legally under this latest set of requirements.
I do have concerns for members on their own as winter approaches and I am very conscious that the club is very much a social outlet so I would ask you to make sure you contact me, and I am sure I speak for other Committee members, should you want to chat.
The restrictions come into place when the bar closes on Friday night BUT I will be behind the bar Friday lunchtime from 12.00-2.30 as an extra session so please do come and please do come Friday night as well as the bar will remain open until 10pm.
We will, as always. closely keep our eye on developments and react accordingly.
Please do keep in touch and take care of yourselves.
