Well, it’s been a great year so far with so many good things going on, and it’s not over yet!

First of all, can I take this opportunity to offer a sincere THANK-YOU to everyone involved in ‘making things happen’ in and around the club for all of us to enjoy – it is both noticed and appreciated!  May I also welcome the many new members that have joined us during the season, I hope you’re enjoying the Club – if you have the slightest query, please let me know!

Good News Time!
As you probably know, the club was successful in its application for ‘Sport England’ funding, towards a competitive rowing Gig. Grateful thanks are due to Caroline Cunningham and everyone else involved, for all the hard work and commitment towards a successful conclusion – a grant of £10,000!  In relation to this, we recently held an EGM which supported the committee’s wish to update our rules to the current RYA standard (a mandatory requirement for any grant funding) which in turn allowed us to go to the next stage of the Gig Project.

So, if that alone is not a great situation to be in, the Rowing Gig project is also the grateful recipient of additional funding from the family of the late Billy Rose. As a family, the ‘Roses’ have always been strong supporters of the club, and now in Billy’s memory they are further supporting the Rowing Gig Project with a generous donation. On behalf of the Stour Sailing Club, a huge ‘thank-you’ to the Rose family.

We will be announcing the date for the launching ceremony in the very near future.

Compounds and Layup!
Cruiser lift out will be taking place from November 15th 2016, and I am both pleased (and relieved!) to say that with Gerry well on the road to recovery following an operation, he has booked the crane and started planning the lift-out for us – many thanks and get well soon Gerry! As usual, the compound manager (Will Langton), has asked that the West Compound be fully cleared by Monday 7th Nov – that means all canoe racks and floor spaces totally empty please (Only if you have a dinghy in one of the three dinghy racks on the East side may you leave it over the winter). Limited winter storage is available in the East Compound, but only if you apply for it BEFORE you move your vessel to it – application forms are available here. If you have any other compound queries, email Will on compounds@stoursailingclub.co.uk.

Entertainment!
Don’t forget the Gala dinner is fast approaching on 19th November, and tickets are fast disappearing, so if you want to come – do something about it now!
Before that, on 5th November we have the popular ‘Bangers’ and mash night which always seems to attract a ‘fuller than full house’, so if you want to come, make sure you get your name down – any queries contact John Kearns on social@stoursailingclub.co.uk

On the Water!
That’s about it for now, other than to say we have the Micro ‘Worlds’ coming up on 17th Sept which is a great spectacle to watch, if not compete in (enquiries to Ian on racing@stoursailingclub.co.uk) and then we have the Curry Cruise on 1st/2nd October – beer and curry, what could be better!! (enquiries to Kelvin on cruising@stoursailingclub.co.uk)

Have a great end of season,

Tim Goodwin
