15′ Aldeburgh One Design

‘Naiad’

‘Naiad’ has belonged to us for 37 years.  She was built in the 1930’s by Eversons boatyard in
Woodbridge.  I believe that about 30 were built and Naiad is one of the very few remaining.
She has been used for sailing the Stour estuary with all our four children and latterly grandchildren.
When not on her mooring at the Stour Sailing Club she has been stored in a barn at home.
When we first owned her I gave her a new top strake and a marine ply deck covered with a
layer of glassfibre cloth which has lasted well with no problems.  The International Boat
Building Training College in Lowestoft replaced various planks and frames about eight years ago.
She has been on her mooring at Manningtree for the last two years with a one year old
Elite cover protecting her brightwork from the elements and the bird poo.
‘Naiad’ has a glavanised iron centreplate and a short bowsprit.  Her jib is furled using an
original Wykeham Martin furling system.  She is gunter rigged.
Like all old boats ‘Naiad’ needs bailing out every few weeks.
‘Naiad’ is for  sale for just £1,500.
