Commodore’s Notes September

Coffee with Cops – Harwich Community Policing Team have got a new initiative where their Police Community Support Officers reach out to the 16 villages in their ‘patch’ via Coffee with Cops sessions.  To this end I have arranged for PCSO Pat Smith to come to the clubhouse on Oct 26th from 10.30 until 12.00.

This is an opportunity for anyone to come for a chat about any concerns, information or just to make contact and ask questions.  Should anyone want to speak privately that can be arranged.

Should this prove successful then we will arrange further sessions – possibly every other month – but this will depend on the turnout (depicting need) of this first session.

Native Oysters Research – Richard Browning-Smith has sent in a request on behalf of Head of Biology Essex University Dr Michael Steinke who is interested in the oysters in the River Stour Estuary.  Essentially he wants to see if there is any way they can be bought back to the numbers that used to be along the whole of the East Coast. This project involves all of UK Native Oyster fisheries.

It seems that he and a colleague of his are looking to visit at the end of September/beginning of October and asks if it would be possible to have access to a boat to show them Wrabness at low tide plus Jacques Creek as both areas have native oysters.

If anyone with a boat is willing and able to help with this please get back to me and I can pass on all contacts to Richard.

Bar Duty – if anyone can help with taking a turn on the bar rota that would be very helpful and ensure we remain open.  You are given training – very easy – and the times we are open is every day between 12.00 and 2.30/3.00 and Wednesday evening 6.00-9.00 plus Fridays 7.30-11.00.  Please contact me if you can help or want to chat about it.

Dates for the Diary –
