Hunter

Since 2016 Coastal Rowing at the Club has continued to expand.  In January 2020 we heard that we had been awarded £10,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England for our ‘Rowing On’ project. The award, along with a donation from the Edmond family plus financial support from the Club, was to fund the purchase of a second Harker’s Yard Gig for the Club so that more people can get involved in rowing both just for fun and the joy of being on the water, and for competition.

The new Harker’s Yard Gig number 22: Hunter – the Sailing Club’s second rowing Gig – she arrived at the Club in March 2020 and was finally able to get on to the water at the end of August, delayed because of the Covid Pandemic.  Hunter is named for Ian Sinclair Carne Hunter Edmond, who would have been one hundred years old a few days after the event in August and Sue Mather, Colin Hunter Edmond and Sam Monaghan did the  honours as the family.

Hunter is one of the first Harker’s Yard Gigs to be made of GRP (rather than wood) and to have inbuilt buoyancy. She is finished in hardwood and from the outside looks the same as William Rose – she weighs the same (220 kilos)and meets the Harker’s Yard Gig racing rules, meaning that the GRP and wooden Gigs can be raced against each other with no handicapping needed.
