Morning All

Firstly, I informed you last week unfortunately of the sad passing of past member Joyce Power, having met with Tony her Funeral has now been confirmed at 2.30 18th March at Brantham Church for those wishing to attend.

The Bar will be open tonight where Richard will be pleased to see you all and take your money once again.

We are getting there and only 2 prizes left to collect from the Christmas draw Jo R and Steve R.C left to go.

Next Wed 20th April see’s Coffee and Cake and any proceeds will go to the Wolverstone Project which is sailing for people with disabilities charity, we are also fortunate to have some members that are connected and volunteer their time and experience to this worthwhile charity to make the sport of sailing opportunities available for those less fortunate and find it more difficult for access but ensures a packed time with lots of enthusiasm.

Member Liza Hicks has recently been doing some training with First responders. They have offered as we have our own Defibrillator to train anyone in the use of the equipment. If you are interested and wish to be trained, please arrange with her and she will coordinate the suitable time and place. She can be reached on 07974 911319 or Liza.hicks651@gmail.com

I have a date of 21st April where we SSC have been invited to attend Harwich Town Sailing club as visitors for the day on our returned visit where we hosted them last summer on their club race day. I shall put a list up on the board where if you are interested in attending, please add your name so I can let them prepare for the numbers. Don’t know what the food choice will be but please indicate if you’re a vegetarian option.

The train is the best option, and it leaves Manningtree Station about 11.15 and Mistley Station at 11.31 and is then a short pleasurable walk if it’s not raining and windy to the clubhouse.

They have a race in the morning for those that may want to watch prior to the bar opening and the estuary may be busy as HPYC will also have a spring series cruiser race on also which will be fine for the armchair enthusiasts.

On a Wed Evening also in April maybe (24th TBC) and in the bar to coincide with our early water activities and in connection with the RNLI 200 John Huggett is going to coordinate a life jacket maintenance awareness check safety brief. This will be a short presentation what to look for what to check what to change and how or throw it away and time to buy a new one. Also, the importance of wearing and wearing it properly. Hopefully, some lucky attendee will experience one being discharged whilst wearing. Yes, you bring your life jacket with you, but this is for you! to check and they will advise but its not a free service.

Another Wed (Maybe early May) 😊there will be another presentation for the members cruisers ½ hr on the new and latest safety requirements and awareness imposed by VTS and HHA around the Shotley peninsular and the Dovercourt bay shipping area. One of our members who is a class 2 pilot has agreed to do this dependant on shift rotation, and hopefully can be undertaken before the first cruising events commence in the 2024 programme.

Well, that’s enough for now

Have a good safe weekend.

Commodore Colin
