Good Evening

Thought it was time for a bit of a catch up as there has been a few things going on.

Last week the club paid tribute to one of what can only be called was a very regular member of the 1st floor of the club, It’s been a while now since his last visit, and as many of you know Alf has been extremely poorly with attendances to various Hospitals and Hospices. With his supreme amount of strength and courage he still fights on and considered that he should organise is his own Awake party with Ann and on last Saturday lunchtime. Members were treated to a drink on Alf who unfortunately had to refrain at last minute to being there in person. His son was also present and could see that Alf is a character of the club who was continually thought and discussed during the session and his absence, and stories are deeply missed. Alf the members thank you for the refreshments provided and hope that you remain comfortable and are well looked after a while you are remaining at home.

Alf enjoying his cake and coffee

On Wednesday Coffee and Cake for February had an amazing attendance with a mad selection of creamy delicacies. The proceeds of which this month were to be presented to to the RNLI Local Harwich Lifeboat 200 centenary fund. With just a 2hr window of 10 till 12pm there was a whopping £145 collected which is a phenomenal amount so well done to all those that helped, produced the goods and those that dug deep in their pockets. To assist at the end Alf who used to be a regular attender the C&C the members decided that he should not missed out further so C&C was taken to him at his home where he can be seen enjoying his slice of sponged madeira or the finest lemon drizzle and a cuppa. All the best Alf and Thanks again.

Friday night is Richards Bar night with games again, it got quite busy last time so any assistance of help to assist him would be appreciated to help the evening jog along successfully for another fun night.

And of course, the holiday for 2 all-inclusive in Barbados remains unclaimed

Notices have been posted for other up and coming events, so I won’t go into them ie AGM and lift in and spring and summer being just round the corner.

It is with regret I also have to inform you of the sad passing of another ex-club member Joyce Power who has recently passed away. Joyce was mother to Tony and Jackie Power both active club racers would often be seen in the past at the old club dinner and dances with Gerry and Di Brown but that’s going back a bit. A keen sailor herself she would often be seen on the river with the family. Details of funeral arrangements are unknown currently. Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.

Membership renewals are in the process and anyone having problems with this can receive assistance at one of the drop-in lunchtime or evening clinics. just pop an e mail to Membership@stoursailingclub.co.uk book a slot anybody with invoice queries should e mail Treasurer@stoursailingclub.co.uk

2024 Tide Tables and Haven Guides can still be picked up from the bar.

New local members for Feb were Kieth Fielden as family member with his wife, who has already paid visit to the bar and coffee and cake. Welcome to you both.

Last but not least a bit of a grumble for those who it concerns. Please don’t take the mugs plates and cutlery etc from the parlour outside and down into the compound please that also goes for the cleaning products. Use a disposable cup or provide your own. Thankyou.

It’s too wet here for me to do anything more so I’m off to find some snow in the Italian Alps snow No blog next week.

So that’s all for now!

arrivederci
