So, into the start of the 2024 we spared you a blog as we all needed a rest after all the activity’s from the festive period, however there is now a lot to cover so will keep it brief and to the point.

Thanks to those that assisted in getting all the Christmas dec’s down it now makes the club look as though nothing really happened.

Due to the number of people entering and using the facilities over the festive time and incurring flu, colds, Covid and that terrible cough we will be undertaking a deep clean and sanitization just to try and ensure we eradicate any unwanted lurking germs still present and to keep you all hopefully well and safe.

While we are talking wellbeing, some sad news that one of our elderly members was admitted into the Colchester Hospice on Tuesday. Alf was a regular Bar person and is always recognised of his presence and attendance by the parking of his enclosed mobility scooter parked by the east slipway. Let’s hope that he his in good spirits and comfortable and still reading the commodores blog that he knows were thinking of him.

Have chased the Tide tables and Haven info sheets but still awaiting updates, I thought they had been received this week as a parcel from Fed ex had arrived but that was the New Aspal glasses for the bar so will announce for collection soon as they are received.

The Photographic comp and the Mike Moss trophy is now closed and leaves the hard job of deciding the eligibility of the winners from your enormous response. When members have completed collection of their prizes from the Grand Christmas Draw, I will endeavour to put the entries on display within the club for all to see the array of fine quality works. It was noticed that there was no cockerel in this year’s entries which probably will be a disappointment for the judges but there are other ranges of feathered and furred varieties of beasts for them to choose from.

A separate notification has gone out about the dredging necessities that are needed off Mistley Quay to the drifting of the silt and spoil being dredged off Felixstowe and dumped off Wrabness by the Nature Reserve Harwich Haven are looking into this.

The bar is still opening as normal for members No volunteer tonight but will be someone last minute im sure, Next week by separate notification is a games night run by Richard and the cribbage championships. Please contact him direct should you wish to consider entering or assisting behind the bar so he to can take part.

This year is the 200th anniversary for the RNLI Saving lives at Sea and there will be a lot of going ons, however a date 13th July they are intending to have a lifeboat day at Harwich which will consist of racers for various classes cruisers and dinghy’s just for fun in the estuary and a number of shoreside events . This would be good for the club to support this event and have a presence in the race fleet even though we are at the opposite end of the river it could be of interest to the Shotley Marina  constituents so mark that in your diary’s and more to come on this in the year.

They are also holding a dinner and dance at tickets at £35.00 per head at the waterfront Harwich, contact me at cmgcommodore.gmail.com should you require more info please on the bookings.

Boats are still becoming detached from their moorings so good time before the next storm to check your tackle etc.

The rowers will be braving the cold once again this weekend where they are attending Brightlingsea for another race in their winter series of HYG rowing. Good luck to them and their crews and wrap up warm.

Have a great weekend and stay safe.
