The Unknown Sailor

Don’t know how many of you will remember the finding of the craft below in August which was washed up on the Co-op walls with a small bag of unknown ashes and a photograph?

I had put out various notifications and requests, but no one has come back to me as the owner and with any stories of the craft or the required original intentions.

The current finder/holder and myself, could only surmise that the intensions were that the ashes were that of someone close to boating or the local surroundings and that they were to be dispersed as a scattering over the river eventually and the boat would find itself out to sea.

Sadly, not the case wedged on the rocks by the surface water drainage outfall.

With that and now 4 months later we decided to take a more appropriate action and on New Years Day , at 1pm on the 1st day of the 1st month of the New Leap Year we took our Unknown Sailor ashes out to Ballast Hill and dispersed them in an appropriate manner with a brief and in solemn prayer and hopefully in line with a more appropriate ending.

That now being completed leaves us now with what do we do with the craft which is a fine piece of craftsmen’s ship. We therefore have come up with the idea of opening up the opportunity of new ownership to a worthy club member or associate.

To enable this all you need to do is, that we ask you to put together in a short e mail, Who you are, Why you would like to have it, and What you would do with it. The new owner will be then selected by the current holder one of our Honorary Members, David Foster at Mistley Marine Marina where the boat is currently berthed to the most appropriate.

Incidentally, this boat is easily transferable, and dimensions are approx. 450mm long x 300mm wide 450mm tall.

Should you wish to take up this new ownership opportunity please send an email to Cmgcommodore@gmail.com closing date 1st Feb 2024

We look forward to receiving the applications and the boat will be ready and available for immediate collection following award notification.

Good luck.

Commodore Colin
