President's Cup Race Results

The President's Cup Race took place on Saturday 12 September 2026

There was a smaller than hoped for entry with boats ranging from 8ft to 38ft for this annual average laps race which saw the faster boats sail three laps of a triangular course (down river) whilst the slower boats completed 2 laps.

The conversation in the compound pre-start was that there was not much breeze, This view was misplaced as once the race got under way east of the Hook buoys the 15mph south westerly was gusting 20+mph.

The local ratings were changed for this one-off race to reflect performances at the recent Regatta and the results reflect the change in ratings and the difference of the type of course.

There was close racing on the water for the two faster boats with the lead changing a few times and only 6 seconds between them at the finish. However, once handicaps were taken into account the two cruisers came out on top and the two small classics did well considering the tough windward legs.

The prize giving was held after racing with congratulations to Dolma sailed by Richard Martin and crew just pipping Jerry and Margaret Garner in their catamaran, Makeda.
